As the pandemic raged across the country, the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland received a call to rescue three Great Danes from a Hampden breeder. With a heartbreaking back story that stretched over two years and was complicated by a pandemic, the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland stepped in. They rescued the dogs and placed them in foster homes. A group of volunteers, including Patsy Murphy and Ellen Berube, stepped forward to take in the animals.
