Golden Retriever Fly Pattern

The Golden Retriever is a great year-round fly, and it works well for trout, salmon, and bass in a variety of water conditions. Designed by fly tier Jim Finn, the Golden Retriever flies are effective when dead drifted under an indicator or swung in current. These flies have been known to catch a variety of fish, from landlocked salmon to bonefish and carp. They are also great options for winter brook trout.

The Golden Retriever is a streamer fly that Tim Flagler tied based on an original pattern by Virginia tier Jim Finn. It was originally designed for smallmouth bass, and has an extra-full tail that gives it life-like motion in the water. Tim Flagler makes a version with ginger marabou and peach estaz that imitates a golden retriever. This fly can be tied with several materials, depending on your preferences.
