French Bulldog Boston Terrier Mix

Characteristics of the French Bulldog Breed Standard

So what exactly is a French Bulldog hybrid, what are they and how come they are so alluring? To answer the last question first; a French Bulldog mix is any dog that exhibits the characteristics of the French Bulldog and Boston Terrier.

The Boston Terrier is oftentimes referred to as “Poodle” due to its large size and the fact that it has a long and sturdy body. The French body is shorter and stockier. Many consider the French Bulldogs to be the “Poodle” of the Boston Terrier breed.

So what can you expect when adopting a French Bulldog hybrid?

Well, first of all, the cost is cheaper than the purebred counterpart of the French Bulldog. The cost is slightly more but still much cheaper than those for the purebreds.

Some breeders even offer adoption at discounted prices, because they know many potential customers will be looking to save money on the hybrid. However, because the hybrid is a mix, you as the prospective owner must make sure you understand what traits each breed have to offer you and choose the right mix for you and your lifestyle.

Because the Boston Terrier was nearly extinct in the 1980’s it was able to be saved and breed into the French Bulldog.

The cost is significantly less as well. Since the breeding between the French Bulldog and the Boston Terrier is still occurring you will find a greater selection of dogs. Also, because it is so close to the purebred standard, the puppies will be much healthier than purebred Boston Terriers.

Some of the characteristics of the Boston Terrier mix are very similar to that of the French Bulldog. They are both small dogs with floppy ears, short coats, love attention, and want to please.

There are however some differences between the two that should be considered before deciding if you would like to adopt a puppy that displays either traits or both. Some things you should look for when considering the potential of adopting a French Bulldog pup include:

– Temperament.

This is key because the temperament of a dog can often determine how much you will have to pay. A well-socialized and treated French bulldog will make an excellent pet. The social nature of the breed is probably best suited for families that do not have a lot of time to spend with the dog.

– Olde English temperament.

The Olde English bulldog is a very mild and gentle breed that loves to be around people. This type of puppy should be about twelve weeks old when being properly cared for. The puppy should receive all the proper vaccinations and be tested for worms and heartworm at least once during the life of the puppy.

– Health issues.

This is really important to remember because of the extreme level of popularity of this breed. They are prone to many health issues including eye problems, allergies, breathing problems, and skin and coat problems.

This is the reason the Boston Terrier mix is typically a Cocker Spaniel mix. Health issues are normal for the breed, but it is important to understand and consider these factors before bringing a puppy into your home.

If you have never owned a Boston Terrier mix before, you should research all the possible breeds to find the right one for you and your family.

You may find that a Boston Terrier makes an excellent pet because of its loving personality, or you may feel that a Poodle would be better. Whatever your final decision is, make sure you research your breed’s options thoroughly and that you do not end up in a bad situation by bringing a puppy into your life that is not suitable.

It can be very heartbreaking to find that you have brought a terrible decision into your life and you will want to avoid the disaster of having a Bostons.
