Chihuahua Lake Colorado Fishing

Fishing in Chihuahua Colorado

You can start your day with a hike up the scenic Chihuahua Gulch Road to Chihuahua Lake, a glacial tarn located in Summit County. This trail is rocky, with several deep water crossings during late summer. Once you reach the pristine waters, you can enjoy sight casting while enjoying the scenery and the calm turquoise waters.

Access the Upper Trailhead from I-70 or HWY 6 in Silverthorne. From there, follow Montezuma Road, which is County Road 5. You will be on the Chihuahua Lake Trail after crossing the old Chihuahua Gulch OHV road. Unless you have 4WD, this road is not accessible without a high-clearance vehicle.

The lake is an excellent location for fishing in Colorado. Located between Frisco and Copper Mountain, it is easily accessible by car. The trail begins at an official parking lot and is steep. After passing through an open meadow, the path evens out. Once you’re above the tree line, the water becomes clear enough for fishing. You’ll see the mountain elk and other fish at Chihuahua Lake.

Chihuahua Lake is a popular destination for fishing in the winter and spring.

After skiing, just throw your ski gear in your vehicle and pick up a fly rod. If you’re a fly fisherman, this is the perfect opportunity to try two sports in one day! In addition to catching fish, you can also enjoy the resort’s other activities. This means that there’s something for every kind of angler.

The lake’s water is a variety of different types of wetlands and can be slippery. The best place to fish is the Dillon Reservoir. It’s also good for trout and can be fished all year round. You can fish Rainbows from the public parking lot. Be sure to bring your fishing license and other equipment, as you will need a car. The road to Dillon Reservoir is steep, so be prepared to get wet!
