Contrary to popular belief, there really are just two types of Beagles. American Beagle and British Beagle. Simply put, they are basically the same dog, just different colors. One is simply American Beagle while the other is a British Beagle. One is designated as the official breed standard, while the other is referred to as a “designer” breed.

There really is just one true Beagle breed – American Beagle. The American Beagle is simply called the American Beagle because it was first registered in America under its original name. Owing to different worded criteria, there can be very subtle differences between the two, which is why there can even be “designer” breeds – the British Beagle and the American Beagle understanding that there really is just one beagle breed. In general American, Beagle has been around since the 1800s. At that time, there were just two types of beagles – the Pit Bull and the English Mastiff.

The American Beagle stands at only about thirteen inches tall.

However, the average height is much higher at fifteen to seventeen inches. The American Beagle’s legs are short, but they do not reach the ground at all. This helps to make the American Beagle one of the easiest dogs to handle. They have a nice wiggle, which is what they were originally bred for. A well-trained American Beagle can sometimes outsmart a larger and stronger opponent.

The American Beagle is part of the mastiff gene pool and it is also commonly known as the border collie or the English beagle breed. If you would like an adorable and gentle pet, the American Beagle is a wonderful choice. This small dog also sheds less than most other breeds of dogs and they are quite easy to groom.
