How to Train Your Chihuahua to Be Quiet
Are you frustrated with your Chihuahua barking? Are you tired of people asking you to “stop that”? If so, you are not alone. Dealing with a dog that barks all day long can be very frustrating and annoying at times.
Unfortunately, dogs bark for a reason. Usually, if the bark is caused by a miscommunication between the pet and the owner, it can be easily corrected. However, if the barking is caused by dominance issues, then correcting it will require more work than just correcting a miscommunication. Therefore, it is important to address this issue to eliminate excessive barking without upsetting the pets too much.
One way to correct your Chihuahua barking without upsetting your pet is to give them a treat when they bark excessively. This is a great remedy because it works in two ways. First, your pet will get a feel-good incentive to bark in return for doing what is right. Second, giving your Chihuahua a treat will help alleviate some of their stress because it provides them with a physical incentive to bark.
In essence, this helps the dog learn to bark when it is needed, which is important for eliminating emotional stress. In addition, by providing a treat when they bark excessively, you are helping them achieve a state of positive mental stimulation which is necessary to reduce their stress levels.
One of the main reasons why dogs bark is because they are either trying to scare off intruders or they are wanting attention from their owner.
A Chihuahua that is constantly barking will get attention from others because of their barks. However, this does not necessarily mean that they are having a good day.
If you constantly try to distract your Chihuahua with different distractions (such as a radio), your dog will only be distracted enough to keep barking. Instead of distracting him with other things, why don’t you try to distract him with your voice? By providing a consistent vocal tone or a quiet sound to change their state of mind, your Chihuahua barking problem can be solved very quickly.
A good way to train your Chihuahua to stop barking is to make a loud noise or a higher pitch than normal when they start to bark. For instance, if they are barking at the mailman, make a loud sound that they will associate with being chased by the mailman. You can also use a higher pitch when you are speaking to your Chihuahua. By doing this, they are subconsciously aware that you are potentially threatening them and therefore will stop their barks.
Some people recommend the use of Chihuahua barking collars. The problem with this approach is that these collars actually reinforce your pet’s barks.
And cause them to bark even more, as they associate using the collar with something positive. This can result in excessive barking that you will want to avoid. Instead of trying to use Chihuahua barking collars, there are several other methods you can use to train your pet to stop excessive barking.
One method is through pet training courses. These are often available through most animal shelters or rescue groups, and they last a week or so. You learn how to create a special routine for your pet and how to teach him what this routine is. These courses usually include some instruction on creating a calming environment in which your pet can thrive.
Another method of correcting Chihuahua barking problems is through desensitization. Desensitization is simply training your Chihuahua to be used to a certain stimulus, such as a toy, to desensitize him to it. Most dogs don’t like to be touched, and many dogs simply growl when touched. Using a Chihuahua barking collar with these types of stimuli can help to desensitize your pet to them. It is important to remember though that no two dogs react the same to the same stimulus, and it is not always a guarantee that they will tolerate it.
