If you have just adopted a 1-year-old pug from the Pug Rescue you are probably as excited as I was when I found out. Now there is no need to stress about getting your Pug settled into his new home as we will show you how to adopt a Pug in just one easy step.

If you have decided to adopt this dog you have made a great choice, a great dog, and a wonderful family addition to any home. There are a few things you should know before you begin the training. Training a Pug is no easy task but with our easy step-by-step process, you will be pampered for your successful Pug adoption.

The first thing you will want to do is make sure that your Pug has had some time to get used to his new home. Now you might think that putting a Pug in his crate for a couple of days will do just fine, but you must give him at least a couple of days, more is ideal. If your pug has never lived in a house before, this is not a shock to you it’s common for pugs to be scared at the thought of their first house. This will take time to overcome, the more time you spend with your pug the less anxiety he will experience and the quicker he will adapt.

Now it is time to introduce you and your new pet to your home.

The best place to start is with your Pug. It is always best to start in the center of the house, where you can keep your pug on a leash and within reach at all times. Now go ahead and set up your crate, we won’t be dwelling on the crate for very long. Once you have both relaxed in their crate, it is time to begin.

The moment you bring your Pug into the house you must immediately begin training him. Pug training doesn’t take long and is generally quite fun. As soon as you put your Pug in his crate, begin playing with him by giving him attention and praising him when he behaves. Keep the praise positive, if he doesn’t do something you shouldn’t reprimand him but rather offer a time out and let him know that his actions aren’t acceptable.

You should begin to notice that your Pug is beginning to understand your commands, you will probably be surprised how quickly you can teach a dog basic commands. Be sure that you aren’t smacking or hitting him when you’re teaching Pug obedience, remember he is still a dog and will need to be taught boundaries and basic commands like sit, come, and so forth. If you decide to take on more than one dog at a time, be sure to remember to only train your pug during their playtime.
