Caring For Your Dog

Loving your pet is simple. Who can resist those enormous eyes and wagging tails?

Taking care of them, on the other hand, can be a hassle and sometimes frustrating. Your precious pet needs to be walked, fed, and groomed constantly.

What if there was a way to make taking your pet easier? There are some simple tips and tricks you can follow to make caring for your dog easier.

Health

Whether you take your dog for a walk, play fetch, or tug-of-rope, your furry friend needs adequate exercise daily. Your dog needs about one hour of exercise per day. This only keeps them in shape. Walking your dog also prevents medical and behavioral problems.

It’s not enough to just take your dog for a walk or ensure they’re getting enough exercise, you must restrict their calorie intake or make sure they are not overeating.

Pet obesity is a serious problem in the U.S. While it’s adorable to feed your pet scraps from the table and watch them enjoy a meal you cooked, your dog is not made for “people food”.

Dog food is specifically made for dogs and overfeeding them or feeding them foods that are high in cholesterol or calories has the same effect on them as it does on humans.

Same with treats. It can be difficult not to spoil your fur baby, but consider the health risks associated with overfeeding or consistently eating unhealthy foods.

A good rule of thumb is to not let treats take up more than 10% of your pet’s daily calorie intake if your dog is active. If your dog is overweight, try limiting their treats until they’ve reached a healthy weight.

Grooming

Your dog needs to be thoroughly groomed about once every two or three months, depending on their coat.

Thorough grooming includes brushing or combing their fur, trimming their fur and nails, and washing their coat.

To keep your dog’s fur easier to maintain, buy a dog dryer. This will not only make your dog’s fur easier to brush in future grooming but will keep them from shaking the excess water off and getting you and your home wet.

Dental

Like us, dogs need dental care too. Try to brush your dog’s teeth every day. If it’s too much of a hassle, try giving your dog dental bones or to help them remove plaque and tartar from their teeth.

This will help prevent bad breath and diseases linked to poor dental hygiene, like gingivitis, gum disease, and tooth decay.
