Choosing California Pomeranian Breeders
One of the reasons Poms are so adorable is because of their low cost, and California in particular. You can purchase a puppy for as little as $300. However, finding the right breeder that you can trust is not easy. So how do you locate dependable and trustworthy California Pomeranian breeders?
The answer is to check out your local pet store. This may seem like an odd place to shop for Poms, but they have a wide selection from which to choose. Plus, many pet stores offer educational seminars that are beneficial to both you and your dog.
Another good way to find a reputable Pomeranian breeder is by speaking to your local veterinarian. Not only can your vet tell you if your prospective breeder is reputable, he or she can also give you some helpful pointers on how to care for your California pup once you get it home. While talking to your vet, ask them about the cost of having a C-section, or the cost of shots given to your pup. Many breeders have been known to charge a substantial fee for unnecessary procedures such as these.
Speak with your breeder about the costs involved in spaying or neutering.
A fee is often required for this service, especially in larger cities. Your pup may be adorable, but he or she mustn’t be facing any health risks. Before you decide upon a breeder, take some time to find out if they charge extra for this service.
Once you find a few Pomeranian breeders to consider, arrange an appointment. This is your opportunity to meet and discuss the specifics of your new canine friend. Ask about vaccinations and to see samples of their previous Pomeranian puppies. You should also ask about spaying or neutering charges, or if the breeder pays for this procedure. While many pet stores offer spaying and neutering programs for purchases made within a store, it’s usually a good idea to learn ahead of time if the person from whom you’re buying the pup will cover this service.
You should be able to adopt a dog from any of the California Pomeranian breeders your interview.
You should feel very comfortable getting to know a breeder and learning about the breeders’ history. After you choose a couple of breeders to interview, make appointments for a visit. You should take along a photo of the pup you want to adopt, and a current photo of yourself – preferably with your hair still in braids.
During your first visit, the breeder may ask you a series of questions about your lifestyle. You may be asked if you’ve had pets before, if you live in a house, if you have children, etc. This is simply a way of asking you to be a good candidate for the pup. If they feel you’re a good match, then they may make an application to let you know. It may also be necessary for them to obtain a court date, depending on where you live, so they can show the court paperwork.
Once the papers are issued and the court date scheduled, then it’s just a matter of waiting for the pup to come home with you.
You may be very excited when you bring the puppy home, but it’s important to remember that it will take at least a few weeks, if not a few months, for the pup to settle in with you. The breeder probably knows how long it will take since he or she has probably been in business for quite a while. If you do end up with a Pomeranian puppy, in the end, it’s a wonderful animal. Just remember to be patient.
