After breeding the puppy and teaching it obedience, she found that it had very strong predatory instincts, so she developed a technique for persuading pets to keep their distance.
Today, the name “Austin Terrier” evokes images of mean and ferocious dogs. This is not always the case. In the past seven years, the American Kennel Club (AKC) has changed the name of its standard to “Terrier”. In effect, this new designation has nothing to do with the terrier’s appearance but reflects a dog’s behavior and temperament. Now the term can apply to any dog that exhibits the AKC’s recommended traits, and which meets other requirements. The term “terrier” is therefore no longer exclusive to any one breed.
Today, many owners of Austin Terriers have adopted their furry friends as house pets, protecting their families and homes at night from intruders.
